FAQ's
What sports will be played in Detroit? Team Sports: Basketball (Boys/Girls), Baseball (Boys), Inline (Boys), Soccer (Boys/Girls), Softball (Girls), Volleyball (Girls). Individual Sports (all for Boys/Girls): Bowling, Dance, Golf, Star Reporter, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Track & Field.
What is the Star Reporter? The Star Reporter program will be run just like any other sport with uniforms, coaches and practices. They will march in as a part of the Detroit Delegation. The Star Reporters will be responsible for creating, producing and distributing a daily newspaper during the week of the Games.
How old do you have to be?? To participate in a team sport you must be 13-16 as of July 31, 2008. For individual sports you must be 12-16 by July 31, 2008.

How much is it to attend the JCC Maccabi Games®? The cost this year is $500. There is an opportunity available to reduce your cost $100 by selling raffle tickets. There are scholarships available on a first come first serve basis. APPLICATIONS DUE JANUARY 15.
How do I register my child as an athlete? Click on the REGISTRATION link on the left of this page.
What is required of athletes?? Each athlete is required to host at least 2 visiting athletes. When registering your athlete, you can register as a host family at the same time. In addition, each athlete must complete a Mitzvah Project.
How do I complete the Mitzvah Project? Your coach will contact you on what the team will be doing. If you cannot attend on that day, please let your coach know and an alternative project will be arranged. Community service already completed (for school, bar/bat mitzvah, etc.) does not count.
Will there be other volunteer opportunities for the Games?? There sure will!!! Please go to www.2008detroit.org for more information. You can sign up for specific volunteer opportunities at specific times and dates using the account you set up when you registered your athlete.
When and where is everything due? Scholarship packets are due January 15, 2008 Non refundable $100 deposit is due one week after notification. On line registration completed by March 14, 2008 Registration packets and full payment are due March 14, 2008. Physical forms are due June 1, 2008. EVERYTHING IS TO BE MAILED TO THE JCC.
What if we don't get our things in by that date?? If materials are not received on or before the due date, you will be subject to a $100 late fee. This includes completing the on line registration, registration packets and physical forms. Scholarship applications are on a first come first served basis.
Are refunds available? Full payment is due by March 14, 2008. If for any reason you are not able to participate in the 2008 JCC Maccabi Games, written notification (e mail to Gennifer Roth at genniferroth@yahoo.com) must be received on or before May 1, 2008. After that date there will be no refunds issued.
